It’s a pentagram. In ancient cultures the number 5 was considered mystical. Iambic pentameter came into vogue, releasing the mystical power of the number in verse. The pentagram was a visual manifestation of the mystical 5.
The Catholic Church, in their bid to crush the pagan religions that came before them, turned the pentagram from a symbol of mystical power to a symbol of Satan. Hollywood took up that cause, and whenever you see Satan worshipers in the movies, you see the pentagram. Rock stars such as Ozzy Osbourne have escalated the myth that the pentagram is a sign of Satanic worship.
