I remember how united and filled with righteous anger I was after Sept 11. And I wasn't alone. I felt that finally we can put aside our partisan differences and takes care of these A-H O L E S that did this. There was so much Good Will towards this country (from France, even from Iran!)
It was very clear to me as i saw all of this being used as an excuse to go to war, as the chance to end Al-Queda in Tora Bora was passed up, and as the Executive Branch and a Rubber Stamp Congress were exploiting justifiable fear of terrorism that the untiy I felt was going to be short lived.
I can remember the exact moment I knew that this "War on Terror" was going to be run in a way that shattered that unity and goodwill.
It was in 2002. Where and when was it over for you?

When Bush and his confederates in Congress passed the mis'named "Patriot Act." That made it very clear that to them, the welfare of the American people was irrelevant--they saw 9/11 and the deaths of thousands of Americans as nothing more than an opportunity to seize powers they are not entitled to under the Constitution.

The unity that I never felt is perhaps a better statement. When Bush manipulated the 2000 election (doing what only history will finally tell to 'win'), I lost faith in the American people and the process of American democracy. A bunch of flags waving was not going to bring that back. Add to that more lies and manipulation to start an unjustified war that every historian could tell was set to be a disaster...sorry...unity means nothing to Americans...just 'god, guns, and gays'....sad

Well actually while the President was standing on the pile giving the Bull Horn Speech I wondered how long the American People would Remember 911. I feel its such a shame in just this short time we've gone all our ways and criticize Really the wrong ones. President Bush Is a Steadfast Man Yet lacks in him communication. The Media and Those whom are to hurt us have spun it all around till now its to a point I can't believe but understand our Countries feelings.

I was an American living in Mexico at the time, and was disillusioned to hear that we were building a case for war with Iraq--disillusioned because i thought then that a war with Iraq would make us weaker, not stronger, as a nation.

My unity with other people stops when they don't wish to be friendly with me. I love people. I have downstairs neighbors who are spiteful to me all of a sudden. I'm not going to fight with them, I'm just not talking to them anymore. I don't know why people are like this. I still smile at people so I guess that's what counts!
