OK. She is safe inside and she will get used to it.
I think you are processing the guilt you feel because she was hurt and also because you feel you are denying her the outside fun. Sure, you have a connection with her, but she isn't influencing your dream. You are doing that and your unconscious just went a bit overboard.
You know what happened in the dream will never actually take place. Possible meaning: You think she will be less of a cat because she has to stay inside - stripping off her coat.
There are cages and walk ways that are meant for cats that will allow them to be outside but enclosed. A determined dog could still get at them, though.
I have cats and I have had a dream or two where one was hurt or died. I just held and loved him more the next day. The two I have now are inside cats and they get plenty of exercise tearing around the house.
Please don't worry. I am happy you still have her.

Well all our dream have a manifest content (which is how it appears to you in sleep), the actual content of what you dreamt.
However, they also have a latent content- which are the more complex psychological interpretations behind them. To me it sounds as though what you are actually dreaming about is partly guilt but i think it is more than that. I think the dream is actually a message that you cannot necessarily protect your cat indoors either. Your cat was attacked outside, which you couldn't control, so you feel that keeping her in is protecting her.
However, i think that deep down you acknowledge that anything can happen inside the house that may harm her too. She may eat something she shouldn't, get electrocuted, etc so what your dream is trying to tell you is what you already subconsciously know- we can't always protect things/people we love from getting hurt. It is not our fault. You need to assess if keeping your cat inside is what you really think is right- or is your subconscious telling you that you should let her out as she is at risk anywhere???
It is difficult to understand any other persons dreams as they are own subconscious thoughts and what i provided you with is only a personal (psychological) opinion and not fact. But think about it. What do you REALLY think is best?

I would rule out the cat is sending you a message.
I think you are experiencing anxiety over keeping your cat inside. Symbols such as trying to break out of its skin usually indicate that you are in conflict and feel a level of guilt (tearing at you)
Cats can thrive inside and you are just trying to protect your pet. You'll probably feel a lot better about things shortly and the dreams with stop. Good luck

Well that must a been a scary dream for you.
And, here is what it means, you know that she(assuming it's a girl cat) doesn't enjoy being inside, she wants to leave the house, she won't hurt herself, but let her go outside, you could put a leash on her.

You are guilty for not letting her out. And it is the fear that she got hurt by the dog gave you the nasty dream. Maybe let her know she can be out when you are out there with her.
