Last noteworthy Brazilian news I heard was that they had achieved oil independence. I've also heard news about fuel pipelines being run through, to or from Brazil -- but obviously I wasn't paying that much attention!

they got knocked off from 1st place in the FIFA soccer rankings after 55 months of holding that place. italy is now number 1. =(
