Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, American Jewish History Month, German-American Heritage Month and Polish American Heritage along with countless other "Months" exist. For some strange reason people tend to think that Black History Month is the only "Month" that exist. It should remain along with the other "Months".

How do you remove something so symbolic yet so American? Our history is exactly that...our story. Everyone is a part of this culture we call African-American. Because it all comes down to us being the same. We separate ourselves on the most basic and ignorant of ideals. But, that's the human experience so we live with it. Take the time to learn more about what you should already know. I don't think we necessarily need a month but it always brings awareness to history. So let's have this debate for the next thousand years. It'll be here just that long.

As long as all other ethics group events are removed to! We get a month, the shortest month to show how we have overcome opticals and how we have contribute regularly, b/c African Americans have been through more S*#@ than anyone else has. So showing some love for 28 days is all right with me. If its all about fairness let St. Patrick's day go, Columbus Day and so on and so fourth. How bout just having birthdays for 365 days a year. They'll make everyone happy.....

It should be removed and integrated into the regular curriculum of our history classes.
There's a black history month so we can spend the rest of the year ignoring black history.

I understand why people felt there was a need to have a black history month as it was felt that recognition of their contributions to our country were ignored. As a child, i remember in our history class that these things were included in our text books and the books read to or by us.Harriet Tubman was my hero when i was 9,and i thought George Washington carver was the most amazingly smart man i,d ever read about.I sat on the couch with my Mom and listened to DR.Martin Luther King,s I got a dream speech and didn't know or care that he was a different color than I, to me they were part of the wonder full country of America.and i was and am still proud to claim them along with all our other heroes that made the country what it is.the problem i see with a black history month is that it once again sets us apart.your history is my history.yes slavery and discrimination were horrible things that should have never happened and i cant say that i understand how it effected you as a people or continues to effect you ,but to bring about healing and forgiveness,it should be taught openly and honestly, good and bad .to teach it separately separates us as a people.anything that emphasizes difference has got to go.we have to stop thinking of eachother in terms of color, create our own race so to speak.

I think that it should be removed and be a history class in its self. Some schools only teach you about MLK and Malcolm X and no others make it a history class
