My daughter is 8 (9 in september) and is sooooooo moody, grumpy and cheeky. She stormed round the house tonight slamming doors and saying she hated everyone when she was told she couldnt do something!! NIGHTMARE!! I just feel she is a bit young for this? She was really upset afterwards (she got a huge row!) and realises she has upset everyone.

the short answer is yes; my friend's daughter started her periods at NINE. Due to better nourishment, and an increased hormone loading through the food chain, girls are maturing earlier and earlier. It is, alas, perfectly possible for your daughter to be experiencing mood swings due to hormone fluctuations. The poor kid! It's just not fair is it?She has hardly had time to be a child and Nature is asking her to be a woman.

Well, I started puberty at eight so I suppose it's possible. But i'm a guy, so it was largely quite a funny experience (little cute kid with a bit of facial fluff and a deep voice...)

I understand how it might have been a little less funny if I was a girl. I still think puberty's not an excuse to be rude or violent. Maybe it's a cultural thing...

Then again, it may just be that she saw someone else do it!! I remember there used to be a lot of THAT going on when I was that age.. hehe!

Hi there

I had my first period at 10 (I am now 42) and my eldest had hers at 9 - so the answer to your question is yes yes yes.

It's hell isn't it? Try treating her in a more grown up way, discussion, rationalisation etc. - I know she is only 8 but she feels like 16 - see if that works. It has for me.

The tantrum bit - I made mine watch "Little Angels" with all those two year olds kicking and screaming and then told them that is exactly what they were like when they slammed, "so unfair"ed, "I hate you" etc. It brought them up quite short for a while!!

Good luck

It is possible, yes. Some girls get kinda cocky and cheeky. Mind you, it will get worse. Just wait for the proper teenage years. 12/13/14 are the worst. So, i suggest start enforcing some ground rules to put this little lady in her place and quick! Good Luck with this....

Yes - it is.
My daughter is ten now and I have had this now for
a couple of years. It really is a battle of wills with her.
She thinks everyone is picking on her. I can remember
being moody myself and I started my periods at 9. So
I just have to keep reminding myself of the way that I
felt. So I just try and have a quiet time when its just her
and me - and give her a bit of fuss. Good Luck.

I am doing an adult ed cource at the mo, and part of it was looking at people from birth through to death, and in that it said that girls start having hormones from 8-9 years old, preparing them for puberty!!

Good luck!

Yes it is possible. It's call precocious puberty. But raging hormones do not give her the right to behave poorly and treat anyone with disrespect. We all have fluctuations in our hormones. Even at her age, she should learn she has consequences for acting so pissy.

Yes..it's about that time. My 8 year old just started being this way too and my 12 year old was like that as well. In my case, it got worse.

I know someone who got their period at 5. It really screwed them up and they were forced to go on all these meds and stuff to fix their hormones.

If you think she is hormonal and not just angry/moody, get her a dr appointment for a complete physical.
