my daugher keeps getting sick from her daycare, this was her first week back, she was out all last week because of a fever, it got so bad we had to take her to the ER, thought it was rsv but that came back negative. so she got better and now getting sick again. she has a fever of 101-102, but goes up and down. i really hate daycare but its the only option i got since i dont have anyone else to watch her. i know she is going to get sick that way her body will slowly get immune but it still sucks. so whats the best way for a fever, keep them warm so they can sweat it out or get them down to a diaper to keep them cool. ive heard both ways.

You know, kiddos are going to get sick no matter if they're in daycare or not. I'm a stay at home mom with a 20 month old son and I take him to 2 half days a week at a Montessori-he's been sick every other week! So, I guess what I'm trying to say is: don't beat yourself up about having to use daycare b/c it happens no matter how little or often you take them anywhere! As far as the fever, don't dress her warm. Instead, dress her in a light gown. That whole "sweat a fever out" thing is nonsense and definitely not good for little bodies. Also, you can get in a warm bath with her and let the water slowly get cooler-that always helps my son. If her fever persists 102 or more for over 24hrs, take her back to the dr....could be a sign of ear infection. Also, acetaminophen is a huge help during the night when the fever can keep her up. Good luck!

I am not sure if you can stop them from getting sick. You can choose a daycare centre that complies with safety and hygeine standards. Remember what they say about children that go to daycare - they may be sick more than other children for awhile but they will be strong as oxes when they are older (and their peers are always sick!)

Day care generally sucks. Shop around for a better one. One that does not smell like urine and sick kids are separated from well kids. These days we don't bundle up a fever because it can get too high. Then the child seizures in an attempt to bring it down. Give the appropriate amount of Tylenol every four hours . You can alternate with Motrin Some doctors do that. Finish her prescribed antibiotic even if she seems to have improved.Since kids vary in weight at the same ages, Tylenol is usually given 15mg/kg. And Motrin is 10mg/kg. So weigh her in pounds and 2.2 pounds equals 1 kilogram So weigh her and you together on a scale at home. Then weigh yourself. Subtract your weight from the weight of you two together and that is what she weighs. Take her weight and divide by 2.2 which gives her weight in kilograms. Multiply her weight in kilograms by 15 for her actual Tylenol dose and multiply her weight in kilograms by 10 for her actual Motrin dose.If medication is difficult to give, Tylenol is sold over the counter in suppositories. Just ask for pediatric Tylenol suppositories from the pharmacist's counter. Lubricate with K-Y have her hugging her mom straddling her mom's hip and gently insert. When she fusses, she will move against mom. It's easier than being kicked from a bed. Keep her cool in the diaper. No over heating. Light bed sheets when sleeping. Lots of fluids and have her checked for otitis media (middle ear infection) and a tonsil infection. These are the two most common baby fever causes.Put her in a tepid bath for 30 minutes if her fever is greater than 101. Good luck and may she get better soon.

You would be surprised at the amount of kids that are not getting there immuniztions and Vaccinations on time and the daycares dont follow up after initial placement! Make sure the providers are keeping the contact with the sick and non sick 2 a minimal. I went 2 pick up my daughter one day 2 find a lil boy with green snot( meaning infection) just constantly in my childs face and breathing on her. told provider that had 2 change or I would remove her. It is though a natural occurence as long as the mucos is clear and not clored green and brown . You and child will be fine

My son also goes to the daycare and i know how exactly you feel about it. But as you said that's the only options for a working parents like us , though it is very heartbreaking to say to just deal with it but the good news is , your baby will also build up his immune system in the process and also develop his social skills.

When my son had a high fever and we were at the ER they told me to put him in his diaper a t-shirt and if anything put a light blanket over him. You should be alternating tylenol and motrin every 4-6 hours. Push plenty of fluids. Pedialyte is good.

Don't let your child get too hot! keep them cool. Also ask your day care how often they clean the daycare beds and toys..They should say its sprayed with Lysol at least every other day, and toys done daily.I ran my own day care so I know what should be done.also ask how often your day care provider washes his her hands..It should be after each diaper change and when ever one child is put down and another is picked up while sickness is rampart in the day care..

Oh god don't tell me this, Im putting my 5 and a half month olds in daycare soon lol
But tylenol on a schedule might be best! Maybe half of the recommended dose? Ask the doctor if its okay though, which Im sure you will or even have.

This happens. My kids were constantly sick the first couple of months in daycare. Their ammune systems have to build a tolerance for the new enviorment. This is nothing the daycare is not preventing or neglecting, its just part of nature. You are exposing your daughter to a new enviorment and there will be an adjustment period.

i know, it sucks to have your kids getting sick from daycare all the time, mine are always comming down with something. just keep her dressed comfortably, and give her tylenol and motrin on a revolving schedule.
