In most cases a slight increase in horse power but not as much as you would expect. Exhaust gases exit the engine under pressure so it moves better. Intake is where you want to concentrate your efforts. Air (not boosted) only has atmospheric pressure to get into the cylinder. Far less than exhaust exiting. With tweaked intake modifications ( excluding supercharging or turbo charging), you will get far more horse power than headers.

Performance headers have more ideal exhausting capabilities and less back-pressure than their stock counterparts, allowing for increased exhaust flow. In short, they help your engine "breathe" easier, which can create a noticable increase in torque and horsepower, and better overall fuel economy (depending on your driving style).
Working around mostly European cars, I don't really know anything about computer-controlled Chevys. I imagine you'll have to consult a reputable exhaust shop to see how your car can be tuned optimally the way you want. It may even involve re-mapping your PCM, depending on the performance kit you get.
Luckily Chevys have always had great aftermarket performance add-ons.

In the old days tuned headers were used to increase horse power in a racing situation. Usually cute to a dimension which provide exhaust suction at a critical RPM. In your Chevy Tahoe you would probably be trying for more power in a towing situation at relative low RPM. Don't think the cost can be justified for that application.

just a lil tip since most have answerd the questions. long tube headers add torque whish is the measurement of force it takes to spin somthing, like the tiers. you use torque to get you moving. shorty headers increase top end horsepower at high rpm but loose bottom end torque. your taho probally redlines or is limited 6,000rpm, which the shorty headers dont do anything to help until about 6,500prm on up. if you do gt headers go with the long tube.

Headers will allow the engine to breath more efficiently.
reducing the back pressure to the intake and exhaust valves will increase the volumetric efficiency of the engine,,,better mileage,,more horsepower,,,reduced engine heat(some engines)you may have to increase the diameter of the total exhaust system right to the back,,,depending on what size you may have now to get all the advantages.
But even if you dont,,,you will still see and increase in performance.

r u installation an finished exhaust equipment? if so this may be done through your self with some approaches: torque wrench for torquing down headers breaker bar- eliminating manifold bolts transportable torch from domicile depot- u would ought to warmth the bolts of the manifold to eliminate them be particular your exhaust hinges and hangars are in solid structure. if the hot exhaust does no longer have the necessary metallic products and hinges to mount to the vehicle u would ought to take it to a keep to weld on those hinges or get innovative to discover approaches to mount the hot pipes to the vehicle body.

increases the flow of exhaust from the engine, reducing backpressure. often times, benefits from this include more power, more torque, better fuel economy, and of course more aggressive sound. also aftermarket headers are lighter than the stock cast iron units they replace so you have reduced vehicle weight. headers that are designed for your vehicle will have all the necessary hookups for your egr, smog etc connections, and will be 50 state legal

Increases air flow for the exhaust system. Less restrictive systems let the engine "breathe" easier and puts more power to the road.

performance headers just allow for more air flow which helps burn the gas hotter which = more power!
