this is always an interesting topic in a forum like this. its likely that the people who discount rap music as a talentless art might be from the same crop of people that keep ignorant rap and pop music popular. supply and demand. rap is an intellectual art. there has not been a truly intellectual art in popular culture since the beatniks. real mc's, as opposed to those that make millions pushing bullsh to the mtv crowd, are philosophers, poets, activists, etc. listen to mos def, common, gza, krs-one, or rakim. their talent runs as deep as any musician on earth.
as far as delivery is concerned, how is it even possible that rapping is as easy as talking into a microphone? if it's so easy, why don't you become the next tupac or jay-z? you could be making millions and changing lives across the world doing something that requires no talent, but instead you're insulting rap on yahoo answers. i don't see your logic. there are people out there that are taking rap to amazing places right now. seriously. you got del and andre 3000 on the forefront, but look deeper and you'll find a crop of artists molding rap (or what was once rap) into what it will be in the future. check out subtle . rap is on the verge of breaking into many little pieces, similar to what happen to jazz in the fifties and rock in the sixties. i recommend you stick around for the aftermath.
i agree that there is a lot of bad rappers making a lot of money right now. but to say that rapping does not require talent is foolish. that very talent carries with it a world wide multibillion dollar industry and has taken over popular music. honestly.

I am a 59 year old white woman who used to feel like you sound like you feel. There is a ton of real talent in rap if you listen. I don't like the pump up oneself songs or the violent ones. But there are excellent ones with like someone said, good flow and great words and music. One that some to mind is "Runaway Girl" by Ludacris featuring Mary J Blige (also with Keke Palmer). Give it a chance and really listen. You can't like all the songs of ANY music genre. Oh, and TRY doing it sometime if you think it does NOT take talent.

I guess the talent is coming up with words that rhyme, yet tell a story and being about to rap, quickly with out getting tongue tied. It may not be considered talent to some, but to the young adults in this decade, they envy these rappers and wish they had the ability to rap and rhyme.

There are some rap songs that are really good, but it's usually based on rebellious types of issues. It's all a matter of how you see it. A lot of people say country music is talentless but I can see how there is much talent in it. A lot of rap is just bass-booming stuff, but some of it can be good...check out 2Pac's song called Changes. He might not be right, but he brings up some issues.

Well in my opinion, rapping is just talking fast but trying to put a bit of feel in it and some people are really talented at this. An example is eminem. I like his more serious songs like "When I'm Gone" or "Mockingbird" or "Lose Yourself" He is pretty talented at putting a feel into his rhymes.

The ability to act like an idiot and convince hundreds of others that doing this is cool.
Rap became popular because it caters to the lowest common denominator, which is that anyone can basically do it. It's just a very small step up from the sing-song rhyming that little kids do and have done for centuries on end. Rap really is nothing new at all.

Yes there is but you have to look for it. Stay away from most mainstream rap because the flow in those songs are so weak and their content is shallow.
If you want real rap listen to true lyricists. They usually have a deeper story to tell and their flow is varied and on point.
Listen to T.I., Nas, Remy Ma, The Game.. rappers like that. They actually have something to say and their flows are sick. Stay away from Lil John, Chingy, etc.. LOL

The talent in rap comes from:
1. Lyrics (if the artist wrote them)
2. How they flow with the beat
3. how their words flow together
4. being able to to do a rhyme scheme that is more than A,b,A,B,A,B
Most times talent is awarded to those who write their own lyrics and the lyrics not only flow together but they also flow with the beat. You must be able to flow with any beat and be able to make it sound effortless.

Hell, yes. You have to be creative enough to write an interesting rhyme, fit it to a beat and make it sound good while you're doing it. Anyone who listens attentively can tell the difference between "good" and "bad" rap easily. Tupac for instance, one of the most talented rappers (though deceased) has a rhythym and style and delivery that probably exemplify a "talented" rapper.

yes i think there is. it is debatable on whether or not actual rapping requires any real talent, but the rap producers are very talented. but in my opinion i think it does take talent to be a successful rap artist.
