Mats Sundin 110%.

He's the better leader.

It's impossible to say whose better.

They are both vital cogs to their teams.
Both average roughly a point a game. Mats slightly higher. But they also play different positions. Alfredsson is a RW compared to Mats as a Centre.

Mats has always been on the top line. Alfreddson has played on the second line often as a senator in an effort to spread out scoring on his team.
A luxury Ottawa has had the last 5 or 6 years given the depth they've enjoyed. Toronto has struggled to find consistent scoring from it's 2nd and 3rd lines which has been good for Sundins numbers but not necessarily beneficial for the team as a whole.

I would take either guy on my team in a heartbeat. They are both extremely loyal to their team and play with a lot of heart and leave nothing in the tank when they are out there. That's the reason they've both been embraced by their home town fans. They're ultimate competitors.

To say one's better than the other shows that you are watching the game through prejudiced eyes. Enjoy them for what they are. Two great players putting on a great show.

Sundin. He has better leadership qualities and has had a better overall career than Alfredsson. Sundin has carried the Leafs for some time now, while Alfredsson is just a scorer. Even if Alfredsson goes on to win a Cup and Sundin doesn't, I'd still say Sundin is better.

I love how people are saying Sundin is a better leader than Alfie.

Tell me, what has Sundin won that Alfie hasn't? Yes, he was on those Swedish National Teams along side each other. Alfie as an alternate captain, Sundin as the captain. BTW, you don't need a letter to be a great leader. And a captain is NOT always your best player.

That being said, I feel they are both pretty equal. They have different strengths and different flaws. And they are hella dangerous when playing together.

Yes Leaf fans, they are good friends. Is your captain a traitor now?

Thats a toughy. The Sens are my favorite team in the Eastern Confrence,
but come on, you gotta love the Leafs in some way. Alfredsson is at the top of his game, but Sundin is a good veteran. I would have to say Sundin. He is good and he is better than Daniel.

Sundin for two reasons. The Hockey Sweden (or whatever they call themselves over there) gave him Captain over Alfredsson for two Olympic games in which he lead them to gold in '06. The other is what the second guy said. Sundin's on the same line as Nik Antropov. The same Antropov who ran into two or three of his own teammates earlier in the season. What kind of NHL player does that? But, anyways, Alfredsson needs a supporting line to help him.

Mats Sundin

clearly it is Alfredsson. When he first got to ottawa they sucked. He has helped make the sens in to a nhl powerhouse. Sundin may have more points in his career but he has also played 6 more years than Alfredsson and he played with players like Joe Sackic and the only really good players Alfredsson has played with are Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley.
Alfredsson has been more consitant over his career and has goten ottawa father into the playoffs than Sundin has gotten toronto

Mats Sundin was better. Alfredsson is just more in his prime-that's all. If they were both in thier prime I don't think any one would be any better than the other-Sean Avery-now there's a player.

Mats Sundin, Alfredsson isn't that impressive as he previously has been this season.
