assisted suicide...I would like to know your thoughts about this subject with respect to people who are considered competent and are in debilitating health (physical or mental or both). I am interested in this subject for research, so I would like to read your different opinions.

I posted this under Health also. Not many answers yet. I will post in Religion, Psychology, and Philosophy as well. Thanks for your answers.

If I knew the person wanted this when they were able bodied then I would assist and find nothing wrong in assisting. People should be entitled to end their life when something similar to Terry Schiavo happens to them.

Every family should speak about this and what they would wish happened to them if it ever did. If they signed a document which was legally binding to say that they wish to be taken off life support then it would also make the life of the family around them more comfortable if they died. They would know its what they wanted.

Only Doctors should be allowed to pull the plug and not everyday people, otherwise you are talking murder instead of assisted suicide.

I don't agree with it because first of all I feel that it is equivalent to muder even though the person wants to die. They have to live with whatever it is they are dealing with even if they ae in pain and such. If they want to kill themself, then so be it. No one should help them to do something like that regardless of who the person is, a doctor, family member or friend, NO ONE!!!!

I think if the person is mentally competent and want to go then they should be allowed to also if prior to loosing mental competency you have stated you dont wish to live as a vegetable then you should be helped to go.
Why prolong pain and suffering just coz we can.
Let them go if they want to.

I agree with it, however, I don't think that people who are in poor mental health should be allowed to make that choice.

i think it's the most humane thing we could possibly offer. of course no one believes in death, but how many people have been in the situation of excruciating pain and it may not end till death? my thoughts are it should be legal, and it should be each and every ones own choice.

I think if someone is sick and they want to die...we should not try and stop them. I am totally for it, and I know I would not want to live with a wire breathing for me.
