I have cable broadband internet service with a Linksys wireless broadband router, SX-400, the fastest/strongest made when I bought it. I have 4 PC's on my home network, 3 desktops and 1 notebook. Two PC's are hardwired to the router; two are connecting wireless.
The problem is with keeping connectivity on the notebook. It connects on startup at 54 Mbps and then the speed starts to drop. Although it connects, pages are very slow to load, sometimes don't and I get a timed out error. Then when the speed gets to about 5.5 Mbps the pages load faster. But then after a short while the connection drops and I must reconnect, or it does it auto. Usually when the connection speed is in the 20/30 range, pages take a minute to load, or time out.

Please give me some suggestions on cause and on fixing. All other PC's connect fine.

If you are sure it is not a distance problem between the router and your laptop, then I may think that there is a problem with your laptop's wireless adapter. If it is a built-in adapter, you should try borrowing a PCMCIA wireless card from a friend and try with that. If you do use a PCMCIA wireless card, try not to rest your hand on it while you use your laptop, as this will cause the wireless signal to drop.

could be one among some issues. the main probable wrongdoer is FM interference or jamming. instant verbal substitute is liable to electromagnetic interference and different sources of FM. probability is you have a cordless telephone interior 6 ft of your router and you utilize it generally. yet another source is from microwave ovens, cellular telephones, and the rest that emits FM frequencies. All of that can cripple Wifi verbal substitute. attempt and save your router far flung from skill lines, feeds, or packing boxes, something with large magnets like audio equipment. ultimate theory is to relocate it 6 ft from the rest on your place of work or failing that have your cable modem and router put in on one among the different desktops on your place. i'm a hundred% specific in case you progression it out of the room you will no longer have matters.
