Well go to pcworld and study about the computers and what you can get. Now there are somethings too. You look for upgradeability. Example you can buy a computer that can carry up to 4 Gb of RAM, but will come with 512 Mb or 1 Gb. It runs about $100 US, more or less, for each 1 Gb you put in. But you do that later when you got the money. They sell computers like that cuz you can afford $1000 with 1Gb of RAM than $1300 with 4 Gb of RAM. Now you have to READ all the articles on RAM, video cards, Disk Drives, and computers so you can make an informed decision. Pcworld does tell you to get a computer with core 2 dual as that is the next improvement over dual core technology. But I got a $1000 from income tax coming in, in about 8 weeks. I am starting to look already. I plan to call the different companies and see if I can get a customized version. That takes a LOT of time. See like HP you can order a certain computer, and then maybe drop off the monitor, the video card that comes with it, and even the disk drives. You get charged for everything. I googled a printer they had with a computer. Did you know i can buy it cheaper on Ebay. The prices they give you are MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Selling Price). So beware of that. I want to get dual 2 core, with 4 Gb RAM available, without a monitor, printer, or video card. I want to get the Nvideo 8800 or maybe the 7950 card with 1 Gb. But I got about 7 weeks more to look. I just sent the return in 5 days ago. Email me in about a week or two and I will tell you what I have found so far.
But if not here are the sites to look in.

Quick answer, but not the one you wanted ... since you're a gamer, a suitable machine will cost well over a thousand bucks. Sorry.
