I'm an african american college student and I have familiy coming to Boston from out of town. I was looking at hotels in North Boston and generally outside of the city. I've heard that it was either North or South Boston that was very prejudiced-I can't remeber. Do any native Bostonians (preferably of color) have any recommendations for where I should NOT book a hotel-either due to an unsafe environment or prejudiced environment? Thanks!

hey i feel for ya. I know boston Very well and ill give you the skinny on different sections. North Boston is mainly Italians, they have great food but if i were black i wouldnt be going around there at night because there are gangs. Just as if i were white i wouldnt be in harlem. The south end is Mainly Irish, southie, after that in dorchester, mattapan, roxbury and jamaica plain, thats a mostly black area but not the best are to be in. West boston near newton is a very safe area, such as brookline or brighton. Right in the city near kenmore square or boylston is a very safe area no matter what color you are. theres plenty of shopping, near government center and the prudencial center. your not too far from the science musuem and the arts musuem, theres lots to do, and plenty of safe areas. good luck!

OK FIRST OFF IT'S NOT JUST BOSTON .. RACISM IS EVERYWHERE. SECOND OF ALL, IT'S NOT "UNSAFE" OR PREJUDICED. YES, CERTAIN PEOPLE ARE BUT GENERALLY NOT. THERE ARE TONS OF DIFFERENT RACES AND ETHNICITIES IN BOSTON... IT'S NOT LIKE THEY'RE GONNA BE THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THE CITY. IVE LIVED IN BOSTON MY WHOLE LIFE, AND IVE HEARD FROM A FEW PEOPLE THAT SOUTH BOSTON WAS RACIST. I ACTUALLY WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL THERE AND THE MAJORITY OF THE SCHOOL WAS AFRICAN AMERICAN. SO I REALLY CANT SAY.. BOTTOM LINE THERE SHOULDNT BE ANY ISSUES. JUST TELL THEM TO HAVE FUN. BOSTONS AN AWESOME CITY.

The areas that are hostile dont have any hotel in them,dont worry dont believe what you hear,its a very safe city.
