Carnegie's basic philosophy was that people should be be encouraged to help themselves. That is why he funded education and libraries so heavily. He believed people should educate themselves so they could build a better life. He was against simply giving money away, feeling it made people slothful.

Definitely wikipedia there is so much about Andrew Carnegie that I don't see how you could not find what you are looking for. Good Luck.
