I watched the episode last night and I am more confused than ever. Would someone please explain what is going on!?

3/4 of the episode was a quasi flashback where desmond was hallucinating (or was he? oooo) that he had gone back in time with a chance to re-live his life. it also explained (sort of) why desmond has had precognitive abilities since the hatch blew up. the basic point of the episode was that fate is a powerful and sometimes harsh mistress, and you can't dodge her forever.
