What's the best way to get it started and what type of care does it need?? (My bf bought me the seeds for valentine's day - he doesn't believe in buying cut flowers because they die...) Any advice is appreciated.

Moon flowers are a member of the morning glory family, and once out side, they enjoy warmth and sun. The beautiful and fragrant flowers open at dusk and remain so until just before sunrise. The large seeds however are very hard. They will germinate fastest if you nick them with a wood file and soak in warm water overnight before planting. You can get an early start by planting them indoors in peat pots. A warm location keep moist. This allows for minumal root disturbance when you plant them out. Check for last frost date in your area and start them about 6 weeks before that. No frost in your area? nick 'em and plant 'em directly outdoors and keep moist.
PS They are climbers. Plant near a fence or trellis.
Also tell him that as part of the gift, he should figure this out and plant them for you. Sorry honey, that cut flowers die routine doesn't cut it unless it comes with the finest belgium chocolates and dinner out where there are cloth napkins.

Definately nick and/or soak the seeds. They are tough to germinate I'd plant the seeds close and thin if you are lucky enough to get all to germinate.

They will need little care, just don't let the soil dry out. Just be sure to plant them in a place that you can appreciate (and smell)their nightime blooms. They're really striking.

We just soaked the seeds overnight and then planted them in the garden near a fence so they could climb. Follow the directions on the package for depth.

plant them after your last frost near a fence or get them a trellis. they are difficult to replant -- most plants you can only buy from seed don't transplant well.
