Just purchased my laptop in late Sept 2006 . It's an Acer 5102 from Staples. Just went there the other day but the guy there was none to helpful. Just thrust one at me and that was it. Wasn't sure if it was the right one for me so I didn't buy it. All he asked me was "what's it for?" And I told him it's for my laptop. He never aked me what model etc. Thought that was rather odd. So I didn't trust him. Can u please help me. I'm pretty new at this so any help you can give me would be great. I just use my laptop at home right now and want to be able to utilize it from anywhere in my apt. Also looking at doing some travelling . So I'm not sure what I should be looking for....

i would have to say from my personal experience i would go for Linksys, best bang for your buck, never had a prolem with them at all and i feel they have the best security, if your laptop is wireless they also offer wireless routers, you can get them at best buy, walmart or any store of that type

He probably did not ask you for the model number because it doesn't depend on what model you have.

Routers are not dependent on the kind of computer you have, but what you are trying to acheive - whether you are trying to connect with wires or wirelessly, how much speed you need, and other features.

Your best bet would be to get a Linksys or a Netgear router. Get a Wireless 54G router and are available almost anywhere for less than $50. Try to get something that is easy to set up and use. Hope this helps!

I would suggest going to an apple shop and getting an apple airport base station. It is a great wireless router that all you have to do is plug your modem into it, than plug your printer into it and follow some easy steps in the instructions to set it up. I have one they work with windows as well as macs and they are great. they are not the cheapest around but they are the easiest to set up and install for somebody who does not know much about them.

If you are traveling and the motel\apartments that you are staying in has a broadband connection that you use you can plug the airport into it and use it just the same as you plug the modem into it in your apartment. They are very small and portable
