Ether someone has been shot when you start it up or you have an exhaust leak that is burning something near the pipe or the leak.

Sounds like the Catylitic converter smellin' up the works. Do you drive the highway much, if not you might run it about 30 miles to warm it up and burn off the deposits, you can always have it changed. The smell may also mean you are using a low grade gas. Change stations and see if the issue goes away

I'm pretty sure you have a crack in your valve cover gasket. Oil is seeping out and burning. There should be a burnt grease spot on the exhaust manifold.
