Tinnitus is any noise that you hear in your ears/head. The exact cause is unknown, and it can not be cured. Since you also have hearing loss and wear hearing aids, the ambient noise around you is amplified by the aids, so you are less aware of the sound in your ears. This phenomenon is called "masking" because the other sounds simply make the ringing less noticeable.

Therefore, many people (myself included) do find relief by playing music or other noise makers during the night. I usually run a fan because the constant nature of the noise is more soothing to me. However, because you have hearing loss, the noise source would have to be relatively louder to compensate for that. This may not be acceptable if you have a significant other sharing your bedroom. The nature and degree of your loss will also play a part.

The American Tinnitus Association and other organizations help people learn about tinnitus and ways to cope.

There are many support groups where you can go and discuss the issues relating to tinnitus with others, and share ideas about what might help. Ask your otologist/Audiologist/hearing aid dispenser for resources in your area.

There are dietary supplements advertised that claim to stop the ringing. Those claims are not supported by scientific studies, and the FDA does not regulate dietary supplements. In the professional literature, ginko biloba is the only supplement that has been proven to correlate to a reduction in tinnitus.
