My wife and I spend about $200 a month on groceries and that is including other materials like toliet paper, soap, and so on. We pack our lunches for work, because just like you say buying lunch is not cheap. I believe $200 a month on food for one person is plenty.

I think $50-$75 is reasonable. If you cook at home and eat off of those meals for a couple of days either for dinner the next night or by bringing them for lunch you can really stretch a buck.

I have expensive tastes in food, since I love to cook. I only dinner at home during the week, and most of my meals at home on the weekends. I easily spend $50 per week just for those meals.

The grocery bill for me and my wife is usually around $170 per shopping, so approximately $85 per person, twice a month.
