As usual liberals say free and conservatives scream taxes. Health care is available in every industrial country in the world but ours. Why? Every country negotiates with drug companies for better drug prices to save the tax payers money, but ours, again why? General Motors pays more for health care costs then Toyota pays in salaries, makes it hard to compete. A health care plan, that business could use, pay into, and that the average American could purchase based on a sliding income scale, could save billions each year, while providing coverage to all, a break to major corporations. But, for some reason, Republicans will not even let the government negotiate for better drug prices for those on medicare and Medicaid. This would save their tax dollars, but hurt their contributions from drug companies. Stop screaming about taxes, and take steps to back up your talk instead. How do the Republicans pass the biggest drug prescription plan in history, then prevent the Democrats from passing a bill that would require the government to get better prices on those drugs? Makes you wonder.

I'm not in favor of "giving" it to ANYONE.

See, here in America, we have schools. These schools are FREE. You can actually go there and LEARN something.

Then, if you apply yourself, you can get this REALLY neat thing called a "job". IF you bothered to equip yourself with even a basic skill set, a decent job *will* give you benefits. Pretty cool, huh?

As someone with a chronic health condition, the thought of the government taking over health care scares the hell out of me. I have double-coverage now, and it took more than FIFTEEN years to get a diagnosis. I can't imagine what a bureaucratic nightmare health care would turn into if we let the gov't take over.

realst - Generalize much? Nice try, honey, but I don't work for a corporation. I work in education - doesn't get much more liberal than that.

Since when is anything the Government gets its hands on "FREE". All I have to do is look at my paycheck every payday to see how much the Government has taken from me to provide something for someone else! Maybe if Government had to make the same hard choices everyone else does with budgeting money, we ALL would have enough to pay for such things like Health insurance.

The problem with free universal health care is that it would become mediocre at best. Why would any of the brightest become doctors if they couldn't make money doing it. What would the incentive be to develop new treatments if the Government would only pay so much for the treatment? Ask someone from Canada how much they like the health care system there.

Is there such a thing as "Free health care"??? What is your source? I've heard of National health care proposals given by socialists who want to have government control over everything. They take our money for social security and I wont see a dime of it. What makes you think they can do a good job with health care? By the way we do pay for free health care for illegal immigrants in this country without being asked so what is your point????

You have no idea why Republicans oppose "free" (it isn't) health care for Americans (capital letters aren't needed). If you did, you wouldn't be posting this gibberish.

Do some research.

___________

Johnny 2 Times: I sure wish. People might actually learn a little about minimum wage, "free" health care, etc. and not parrot what the media tells them.

Republicans are opposed to universal health care for Americans because their corporate leaders told them to be opposed.

The AMA and Big Pharma makes obscene profits in the USA and don't want to lose this money. They heavily lobby our government and give huge sums of money to candidates to ensure that universal health care does not get any traction.

Free medical care to Iraqis is supposed to make them like their occupiers. I don't know about the free medical care to Israel, but with the billions the US gives them, they can pretty much buy whatever they want.

It's not free. Someone has to pay for it. Thank you Joe Taxpayer. Also, anyone who deals with the government for anything, especially healthcare, i.e. medicare , medicaid, medicare d, know how amazingly ineffecient and inept they are at running even a minor portion of the healthcare system. If you think the system is chaotic now, what til Hillary gets her hands on it......

Free health care would be nice, but it would also cause a lot of problems. People would go to the doctor for minor things, there would be long lines, and the quality of health care would go down.

Free health care would get rid of free loading doctors, hospitals, and insurance companies. Wouldn't that be great.
