They seem to have some sort of mental block when it comes to satire/irony/sarcasm. Why do they find it so difficult to laugh at themselves?

Why would they accuse the film Borat of being offensive to Jews when Sascha Baren Cohan is Jewish himself? That was what made it so funny!

Does a black person who hates other black people have moral permission to make racist black jokes?
No, of course not, and neither does a jew-hating jew.
I don't think that Sasha Cohen hates other Jews, but membership in a social group does not give a person permission to make any joke at the expense of that social group. Rules of taste and tact still apply. I don't like hearing cracker jokes from anyone, white or otherwise; Jewish people should be allowed to be offended at whatever jokes they find offensive.
I'm not even saying Borat wasn't funny, because it was - in a horrible, offensive way. Horrible and offensive, and I still laughed. But it doesn't mean other people have to.

Just remember that our society (officially, at least) encourages sensitivity to minority groups for a reason - because not so long ago, racist offenses weren't a joke, they were a reality. They often still are.

many are touchy on the racial humor, many are standing up and not allowing minorities to do it either. For a while it was ok for the jews and blacks et al to still be racists. Americans are starting to say we don't appreciate it directed at us either, we've (many)held our tongue and tried to be nice for at least 20-40 years, and expect the same courtesy.

i understood borat was making fun of his enemies, that is still slanted, biased and if i'd go so far as to say stereotypical if not racist itself. I don't mind laughing at myself but often times humor is malicious and has an edge to it.

Often time too some may not even realize your sarcasm, especially online, i don't know you or what depraved thoughts you're actually capable of believing. the tone and inflection that would often signify your playful mood does not appear on the typed computer screen.

America takes itself very seriously, regarding itself as the ne plus ultra of virtue and Christianity, the guardian of the world's morals and the savior of Europe. Taking on such heady responsibilities tends to allow very little time for anything but the most obvious of "prat-fall" humor.

Such subleties as satire, irony and sarcasm slip right by them.

What do you mean? I laugh at America/Americans all the time and I'm an American. As far as Borat goes, that's the very powerful Jewish media talking to you. They control almost every major news outlet in America these days; so of course you'll hear all about any issue that involves a Jew and someone is against him/her.

Do you mean how we can't tolerate another country criticizing us? Like France and Germany before the war started? "freedom fries"? That's our intolerance and arrogance, mixed with our deep seeded rebel roots, we don't listen to anyone, nor recognize anyones authority over us, its practically in our blood.

Tell me about it. I have had Americans threatening to kill me just for a little bit of a joke. They need to develop a sense of humour.

We can laugh at ourselves, but what we don't find funny is people who have never met us calling us disgusting fat slobs, saying we have lower than average intelligence and such hatred like that. Is that what you were referring to has a joke, well than I guess some of us can't take a joke. Perhaps our humor is different than yours, we tell jokes to make people laugh and we don't find humor in treating people like they are less than human. Hope that answered your question. Have a nice day.

Just like people were mad about Hogans Heroes yet the Nazis were played by Jewish actors.

wow, looks like some americans already got their idiotic answers in!.... Americans don't get intelligent humour... they do get jokes, when it's simple, straightforward, and requires very little knowledge or brain usage... but laugh at themselves? that would require them to actually admit they have flaws! never going to happen.
