You need a diamond tester. Jewelry shops have them.

Assuming it is a very good, quality cubic zirconia, you really shouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and a diamond just by looking. Diamonds are typically a lot sparklier and harder. They aren't the same thing because their chemical compositions are different. Diamonds are 100% carbon, while cubic zirconias are a different cocktail of elements and molecules.

actual diamonds took thousands and thousands of years for nature to make out of fossilized carbon employing the stress of the earth being pushed down with gravity.....and cubic zirconia comes from a production facility.

You can't tell by looking at it. Unless you are a gemologist with years under your belt and you can recognize how diamond disperses light differently than CZ, you won't be able to distinguish the two visually.
You usually have to test it to find out. The simplest is to just measure density. Diamond is 3.5 g/cm3. CZ is 5.7 g/cm3. Or you can measure refractive index. Thermal conductivity is also a good way to distinguish between diamond and CZ. Diamonds are great conductors of heat whereas CZ is not. Contrary to popular opinion, I personally don't think the "scratch a glass" test is a good test. A lot of things can scratch glass. I don't have the reference handy, but I believe even CZ can scratch normal silica glass.

Diamond has a higher refractive index (2.419 vs 2.15 - 2.18 for CZ), which makes it sparkle a bit more. Though it's highly unlikely that your average person can tell the difference by looking at them, even side-by-side.
By the way, frozen water has a much lower refractive index (1.31) than either diamond or CZ. Anyone who claims that ice sparkles more than CZ is imagining things.
