nba franchises arent stupid they are not going to try to lose all of their games for a rebuild lottery pic. yeah the 1st pick is nice. Lebron, is a great example but there are some lame picks as well. Kwame Brown...enough said..... the last thing a owner wants a team to do is try to lose. they need the team to show heart and at least compete to sell tickets, merchandise, and to get more money on advertising. do you think Cuban, or the Maloofs (without their casinos) would make that much money if the teams kept losing?

Yeah the kings are losing left and right, but they are losing close games, with a blow out from time to time. the celtics lost 18 in a row but found a way to turn it around, and blew out the bucks. they show heart and the fans are still there. to base your season on that number 1 lottery pic WHICH YOU ARENT GETTING FOR SURE. would be ridiculous, it isnt like the NFL. there are too many games to throw away your season especially before the all star break.

if a team throws games, fan stop coming, games dont get on tv, or advertised, coaches get fired, people request trades, franchises flop. it isnt worth it!

Every team should try to win no matter how bad they are. Being a losing team does not guarantee getting the 1st pick in the NBA draft and getting a top ten prospect does not guarantee success the following season.

In the NBA, the team with the worst record does not get the first pick in the draft. (If that's what you're thinking)

There is a lottery, and the team with the worst record gets the most "balls" in the pot, so they have the best chance to get the first pick (Greg Oden from Ohio State).

But in reality, they CAN'T purposely lose. Player's cannot afford to play bad because it will lower their perceived value in the league. Coaches cannot afford to blow games because they will get fired and lose money.

The only thing that COULD happen that's even close to giving up is if you had a good player that was injured, and you have a terrible record, in that case, you wouldn't rush the injured player back into the lineup. You'd just let him sit and get COMPETELY healed up so that he doesn't get re-injured in meaningless games.

They should keep on trying to win. Look at the Los Angeles Clippers last year. After years of horrible seasons, they put together one great season and their fans loved every moment of it. Though the Lakers are LA's team, the Clippers gave them a run for their money last year.

well the Celtics are actually trying to win, but they are terrible. I think UCLA could beat them.
