good question friend...i was talking to my mother earlier today..she struggles with being unhappy in some areas in her life so I can understand your discontent...the only ways that I know that can elevate your degree of life satisfaction is through re-prioritizing the relationships in your life...if you have conflict with colleagues, or friends, try to evaluate how these tensions can be reduced or eliminated completely. if you determine that the source of problems comes mainly from your friends and not yourself, you might want to encourage your friends to change their outlook...if it persists, you may need to step out the situation and redirect your energies to people who do not cause you such discomfort..if you are unhappy with yourself (i.e. body image, relative accomplishments in life), you should say, "What are the ways in which I can change my relation with this issue?" For instance, if you don't like your body, consider participating in a local gym class, or exercising on your own in an outdoor activity such as running or biking. I guarantee that if you do this a few times a week, your mental outlook will improve over time and your body changes will also give you a greater sense of self-confidence...if your feelings don't change for more than 3 weeks, you might want to consider visiting a doctor or psychologist who may be able to determine whether this may warrant further treatment...in the meantime, know that you are worthy of being happy...but like it is stated in the Constitution one is legally granted "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"...happiness can not be achieved out of thin air...you must pursue it...good luck :)

You can't make yourself happy because happiness is already within you. How can you give yourself something you already possess? You and all of us were born happy, but unfortunately we have been conditioned to believe that our happiness comes from outside influences.
I am saying we don't want to be happy. We want other things. We don't want to be unconditionally happy. I'm ready to be happy provided I have this that and the other thing. But this is really to say to our friend, lover or to anyone, "You are my happiness. If I don't get you I refuse to be happy." We have been taught (conditioned) to place our happiness in them. We cannot conceive of being happy without them.
