I think so. Who ever takes that team has to know its traditions. Not only that the Yankees are a big market because thay are in ny. It makes good sense to spend the extra money to keep the fans interested. they make that money back that they spend 20 times over.

The Steinbrenner family isn't going to sell the team in the foreseeable future. This is what I see happening: A strong GM makes the player moves and contract deals. The Tampa contingent has some say and focuses on player development. The ownership group will focus on revenue, advertising, marketing, the YES Network, etc.
I'm a huge Yankee fan and that sounds like a great set-up. That's basically what happened this year and look what happened. Cashman unloaded aging talent with huge contracts and bad attitudes (Johnson, Sheffield) and brought back bullpen depth and restocked the pitching in the farm system. He also lowered the payroll (as well as the average age of the team) and that will continue as other big deals expire over the next two years.
Tampa is going to monitor and control Philip Hughes' and other pitching prospects workload and development to make sure not to burn them out but still help them progress.
The ownership group is going to rake in oodles and oodles of cash to fuel it all and ensure the financial future of the franchised.
As far as free spending, the Yankees were NOT free-spenders this off-season. They could've overpaid for Zito like the Giants did or even brought Soriano back. But they didn't because they didn't want to spend the money and max out the payroll. It's a new day in the Bronx and Tampa. They'll make big deals but only those that make sense. It won't be like it has been the last few years of big deal after big deal.
As a Yankee fan, I say thank goodness for that. Payroll flexibility!! A good farm system!! Young pitching!!! Finally!!!!

I am not sure how to answer, because you've argued points the same points with people that I would have argued. Wang is an ace. When he goes to the mound, you know the Yankees have a great chance to win. He has not struck out a lot this year, but Wang is always 94-95 and does not give up a lot of home runs. He has given up ONE this season. I agree that the playoffs are overrated. Wang did win a playoff game in '06, pitching very well against the Tigers. He has worked hard to add a slider and change to go with his sinker, and I think he will easily win 20 this season. Wang led the entire majors in wins with 38 in '06 and '07, isn't that an ace? I think that a lot of baseball fans are anti-Yankee and don't want to give Wang credit for the great pitcher he is. It's not like he has been winning games because of the Yankees scoring a lot of runs. He always has very good ERAs for pitching in the A.L. I think a guy who is always a threat to win 20, throws in the mid-90s, and doesn't give up home runs is an ace, which Wang is.

I realy hope so, because if we have one of those "let's rebuild" type of owner the yankees would be just another team and that scares me being a yankee fan. But at the same time, the yankees have a lot of young prospects on deck waiting for their chance. Just look at Melky Cabrera, he is a great player in my opinion, he exites the game and enjoys it, but yet theres so many all-stars in that team that he's just a bench player. So i go both ways on that one but lean a little more to the free spenders.

The yankees have spent less this year so far and in 2006 than they did in 2005 so it looks like the free spending may have stopped

It really depends on who buy the team. As it stands spending is the only way to keep up with the free agency market. One day it might change but that could be a long way off.
