"A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE REPUBLICAN"

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.

All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast--bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union.

If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads.

He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans.

The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.

He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

The current values are the same for both boorish parties:

1) Always vote your party lines-do this even if your party is wrong
2) Disagree with the other party at every possible chance - however you should not give any alternatives to what they are doing "wrong" in your eyes. Just disagreeing with them is enough.
3) Do not make your donors mad (notice I did not say the voters - face it, big business runs the nation and also pads the pockets of the candidates and their parties)
4) Begin campaining immediately after you have already been elected. You can then be called a "front-runner" in the polls.
5) Finally, value all the votes you can lie, trick, steal, cheat, fake, bribe, or borrow that you can get. Unlike the original intentions of the Founding Fathers, politics is a life long job so you'd better do everything you can to keep that job.

Remember: We the People are supposed to be in charge of this place!

How about a serious answer...

The terms "conservative" and "liberal" generally reflect standard definitions. Conservatives seek to conserve what already exists, while liberals are less committed to those ways. The terms are also applied to two basic aspects of American society: Social policy and fiscal policy. Liberal social policies may reflect more of a focus on workers rather than management, more acceptance of immigrants, acceptance of personal drug use, homosexuality and abortion, resistance to mixing religion and politics, less militarisitic responses to world events, and policies that cast the government in a more proactive role regarding solutions to issues such as poverty and education. Liberal social policies are often overly paternalistic, relieving some groups opf any responsibility for their own actions.

Conservative social values generally reflect an opposition to homosexuality and abortion, an overt influence of religious values in public policy, a focus on management rather than workers, and resistance to benefits for people they perceive as not having earned them. A simplistic comparison of extreme liberal and conservative values is that liberals think that the poor are that way through no fault of their own, while conservatives think that people are poor because they want to be or are too lazy to work. Neither is right.

In reality, many people are socially liberal but fiscally conservative, not wanting to waste money but at the same time using government for good, such as in the response to Hurricane Katrina or keeping Americans safe. The practical application of both liberal and conservative beliefs has been corrupted, though, because of the toxic political atmosphere in recent years. Liberals are not a bunch of cowardly traitors, and conservatives are not a bunch of racist homophobes.

Their world view is different, the conservative believes it is every man or country for themselves and Liberals believe we are all in this together. Their moral values are about the same but differ on civil rights. Also the conservative fallows father figures instead of representatives.

That's a tough one since these terms have changed over the years. Conservative now means Neoconservative. They are similar to LBJ from the 60s, same values. Liberal now means Socialist/Communist, which believe in humanism and greater government control. A true Liberal is now called a 'Classic' Liberal which is a Libertarian.

Basically in the simplest of terms. Conservatives prefer a strict interpretation of the Constitution where Liberals prefer a looser interpretation. Letter of the law vs. spirit of the law.

In terms of economics, Conservatives don't want to spend enough and Liberals may be tempted to spend too much. Liberals believe in pay as you go (tax now spend now) where Conservatives believe in borrow and spend (spend now pay later).

I'm a Republican Because...

I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.

I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.

I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.

I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.

I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.

I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.

I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.

I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.

FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

Conservatives are God-Fearing, Red Blooded Americans. Their values include personal responsibility, piety, hard work, fair wage, owning up to your mistakes, among a few.

Liberal values push sex, drugs, alcohol, no responsibility for actions, killing unborn children, and trying to control the populace with Bushate and Bushblame and Bushfear.

They are topics politicians use to divert conversation and attention away from their actual activities. Like the distractions magicians use to shift the audiences attention away from one hand while they switch cards with the other. Political slight of word.

Conservative values are ones that make common sense..... and there are no liberal values. One has to have principles to have values.
