I just interview for an receptionist position at a bank. 1 year ago I was stupid and made a mistake for theft. ON my application I didn' t check any of the questions of crimes committed. I was confused if they're asking for felony or any misdemeanors. But my conviction is going to be chrged off this july 07. So what do you guys think is going to happen to me. Me and my interviewer was great. I know you guys aren't Human Resource but have you come across a position like this? I passed for my current receptionist position but this is a bank. Man i hate this...ergh.. I want this job so bad i can taste it but if i dont get it i understand. so what are my chances what should i do? she didnt even ask about my background at all. great....

I would say you have a decent shot at getting this job. Laws say an employer can not discriminate against a potential employee based on criminal record unless it has a direct effect on the job duties. If you where a teller with theft on your record I would say you have a snowballs chance in H.E.L.L. but since you are applying for a receptionist possition, which I would mean you have no contact or access to any of the money, your theft could be an issue. I am also factoring that they are going to over look any misdemeanor charges since they are not as serious. The only thing I could see hurting you is that you did not tell them about it on your application and that could be considered falsifying a document. I would say you have a 50/50 chance just because you do not have access to customer account information or any of the money and the worst thing you could potentially steal would be office supplies. Good luck and I hope things work out for you and you get the job.

You only have to report a Felony Conviction on any application; however they do background checks the gross misdemeanor should not show up on this.

I would make sure they know about your past...you dont want it coming up later. Its better to get the truth out in the open. But yea I really doubt they will give you the job once they know...sorry.

No way you can get a job at a bank if they see theft on your record.

I'm sure where you will be handling money that they will do a background check. I would try to find a job where handling money or valuables is not involved.

don't ask ,don't tell. but when they run a check on you, which they should, because I believe you would need to be bonded, they will find out
