The problem with Billy Wagner being in the Hall of Fame is that he never dominated the game the way a great closer like Mariano Rivera has. When Mariano comes in, its like game over. If the all time save leader, Lee Smith, doesnt get in then i dont think Wagner deserves to make it.

At his current rate he won't be. I mean, right now he is in the prime of his career. It's not going to get much better than this. He's good, real good- but let's face it. If you had to pick a closer for your own team, would he be on the top of the list? Would he even be second on the list? I'd take Rivera, K-Rod, BJ Ryan, or Papelbon over him- just among people closing last year. Wagner has always been VERY good but he's never been the best. And the Hall of Fame is for the best.

No. Unlike Rivera, Wagner's saves have rarely been meaningful. Just regular season games with little effect on a pennant race.

Some people its about the stats, he has the stats but is the total opposite of clutch, you dont get in on stats alone unless they r unfathomable like Marino (i know nfl)

Yep. Keeping his career ERA under 2.50 and nearing 400 saves will get him there sooner or later

No unless he has some amazing years ahead of him. Its harder for Relievers to get in than hitters or starters.

Its to early to put him in that catagory yet, but he very well could be if he keeps pitching the way he has.
