In what is the only sign of any major controversy from the ceremony, over 400 people have already complained over some of the jokes that Russell Brand made whilst presenting the ceremony.
Among Russell's targets were The Queen, the Iraq war and Robbie Williams, who earlier that day had revealed he had checked into rehab because of his drug addiction.
Some of Russell Brand's lines included:
"I think a good international breakthrough would be if the British and American soldiers tell each other where they are standing".
"Robbie Williams' medicine cabinet" (whilst pointing at a massive padlock).
and "Can you honestly say that if someone gave you an envelope with a photo of the Queen's privates in it you wouldn't have a look?"
According to the BBC, an ITV1 spokeperson has defended him calling Brand an "edgy host for an edgy event."
Russell Brand makes shocking joke: whatever next?!
People that complained? THE SWINES!!!

I didn't particularly like Russell Brand before I watched the Brits show. I'd only ever seen him on Big Mouth and didn't really give it much time because it was BB related. I have to say that I thought he was hilarious, brilliantly funny and he seemed so very natural throughout the show. Yes his jokes were risque, but is there really anyone out there who believes that these were just off the cuff remarks he made, come on!!! This material was written for him. There were plenty of warnings before each part of the show started, so they have no one to blame but themselves for watching. Some people are only happy when they're complaining.

To be honest I dont think that Russell Brand was the right host, most people do see this man as vulgar and some people really doesn't understand his sense of humour, His humour is bland dull and boring for that kind of show, he does tend to see himself as a popular 'star' which he isnt, this dull man only got well known for this sense of humour in BBBM on channel 4, The ideal person to have hosted the Brits should have been Alex Zane, At least he knows his music and would have made this show a lot better Russel brand is dull and boring and I personally dont like him but I wouldn't complain

What a surprise, eh?
As a man who doesn't like Russell Brand, this is still ridiculous.
I was at a live show where he performed an after dinner set among a line up of solo acts:Josie Long, Simon Amstell & a couple of others. This was before he was EVERYWHERE.
His stand-up is actually quite good but very offensive to the easily offended. Which includes the trying-to-be-in-touch parents of the BRITS demographic.
But really, not like they shouldn't have seen it coming a long way off.
Like a London Bus or a perhaps a polar bear in the desert, a man who openly talks about his heroin addiction, seeing hookers and talking at length about his sex life in general (sometimes elaborating a little- Props to Rod Stewart for publicly calling him out) is hosting a music show with a teen audience.
It was commissioned, he acted like everyone might predict,
people chose to watch it, then complained.
All are equally responsible for their actions. If you know something might offend you, just don't watch it.
As Lenny Bruce said "Take away the right to say **** and you take away the right to say **** the government"; in broader terms this means that no constraint on topics can really be allowed in comedy, which is, after all, Russell Brand's chosen career. To paraphrase another great dead comedian, Russell Brand without the offensive humour would be as bland as rock against drugs. Comedians are there to make people think as well as laugh, so they have to be able to explore things that maybe we're uncomfortable with and, to some extent, be prepared to break taboos.
It's not even like the BRITS haven't seen past "alarming" incidents that might set off alarm bells to the easily offended.
If you hate Russell Brand, which I do most of the time, hate his smug mockney overgrown manchild TV persona, which no doubt is strongly based in reality.
Remember: If you write letters more people watch it.
Turning off the TV means one less person watches it, and it's better for the environment.

I really like Russell Brand but I can also see why there are a lot of people who don't like him - however, if you are watching a programme and something is said that offends you, you all know where the off button is! I never understand why people bother complaining about offensive programmes to be honest - if I am watching something and something happens or something is said that offends me then I switch off or change channel - I don't bother wasting my time ringing the television company because I don't really see it as a big deal!
Plus - it was a live show. If something goes out live then you have to expect an element of controversy.

St Helen's fan has it spot on - I for one have not bought into the celeb nonsense and I think it diminishes us as a society that we celebrate and even glorify these people. It is quite concerning that a generation of children are growing up now thinking that that these creations are prime examples of our much-vaunted 'freedom of speech'. Well, I would rather have freedom from celebrity hype. I wanted to watch The Brits because I am interested in music; I should not be expected by the tv company - or fellow commentators - to stop watching it because it veers off in another direction - one that is not suitable for family viewing. As someone has already said on here, I suspect the choice of Brand was a little cynical: complaints = publicity and that certainly didn't do BB any harm! So, you enjoy being manipulated?

Personally I'm not a fan of Russell Brand because I don't like his humour - he goes for the shock factor rather than being funny - but I know what to expect so if I watch him, it's my own fault. The TV people must have known what they were getting and if people didn't like it they should have turned over. And how desperate must people be to phone up and complain......just switch over or turn the volume on when he's talking, it takes less effort than making a phone call and is much cheaper!

ITV wanted something to happen as the Brits are pretty tedious normally. They were barely any better being Live.
I would have thought the most relevant complaint was that Russell Brand wasn't funny. He can be quite good on BB follow ups, but he was dull on the Brits.
Bring back Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood for Live Brits - now that was funny!

The Brits were great...... Russel Brand was his usual crass self.... Hippoctrit to boot..... How dare he go on about Robbie checking himself into rehab for addiction to prescription drugs, when in fact just before the Brits started it was said on national TV that in fact Russel Brand was checking into Rehab himself.
Perhaps at the same time they can rehabilitate his disgusting foul mouth.
The people who have agreed with his humour on here saying it is OK are not in accord with the audience of the Brits..... at times the audience went quite quiet, and boo 'd when he was on stage.
I think that the rude foul mouthed of Britain should get a life....!!!!

I quite like Russell Brand, but what about people who want to watch the Brit awards without being offended?

The only thing I was shocked over is that there were only 300 complaints, there should have been more. No, I didn't watch the programme, Brit awards or whatever it's called, but people that make jokes about ones betters deserves publish trashing. I am of course referring to the jokes about the Queen. People should learn how to behave themselves!
