Me and my husband were just curious, we were watching the probate hearing and they were all arguing about whether or not they could obtain Anna Nicole's DNA (to make surethat there was no "bait and switch" of the baby). Couldn't they use DNA from Anna Nicole's biological mother? Wouldn't that DNA also be present in Anna's baby, Dannielynn? I don't know alot about DNA and was just wondering. I feel for the baby and she should be with her biological father, whoever he is (I think Larry Birkhead , I think he is the only one who doesn't want Dannielynn just for the potential inheritance money, also he had claimed the baby before Anna died). I also think Howard Stern had something to do with Anna and Daniel's deaths.

EDIT: By Howard Stern, I mean Howard K. Stern, her lawyer and alleged lover, not Howard Stern the radio personality.

EDIT: I don't understand why Howard K. Stern is fighting against the court using Anna's DNA, if he is confident that he is the baby's father, it seem's suspicious.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear in my question, I do realize that DNA can be obtained from Anna Nicole, even years from now, but Stern's lawyers are fighting this, that is why I am asking about her Mom's DNA. :)

They could use Anna Nichole's mother's DNA, but that would only prove the child had the same grandmother as Danilynn. Since Anna Nichole has so many brothers and sisters, it still leaves the question of if the DNA was that of Danilynn. The only way to be absolutely positive is to use Anna Nichole's DNA to verify the identity of the baby.

I'm sure they could, but it would be less straightforward.

Everyone has 1/2 DNA from each parent. SO, if they used Virgie (Anna's mom) as a DNA source, the DNA would likely only be a 1/4 match for the baby. I'm sure they could use that, but at this point, I'm sure they want the REAL thing...especially with all the oddities that are going on with this story.

I had this thought the other day about the whole thing...I think someone on tv said it too. If Howard K. Stern is so sure he's the baby's father, then he needs to just give his DNA, have her tested and there ya go...that's what makes me think that he isn't. He won't just buck up and do it. I think she's Larry Birkhead's baby, just by looks alone, but you never know. Interesting it would be if it came out and she wasn't his, Howard's, the former bodyguard's OR that Prince whatever his name is...

Their are many different ways of obtaining DNA. Blood is just one of them. An autopsy was done and that would be standard procedure to take blood. At this point they would have what they need to determine paternity. When the judge issued the order to hold her remains for 10 days, I am sure he did not know at that point how long the autopsy would take. They are now arguing about who gets her remains since they now will have all the samples that they need to determine cause of death. As for Howard K Stern, I am not sure what I think of him. He has to hold some responsibility for both their deaths, since he needed to step up to the plate and get them the help that they needed. Finding ways to get prescription drugs was not helping. Who ever the father ends up being, I just hope and pray for that little girls sake that they take good care of her.......................He will be fighting it because deep down I am sure that he does not know beyond a reasonable doubt that he is the father. As for using Anne Nicoles mothers DNA, they would also have to make sure that she is the real mother and there again they will need Anne's DNA. So what ever way you look at it they need Anne's DNA.

Well if Anna Nicole had inherited DNA from only her mother, that would work. But a person inherits DNA from both their mother and father. A baby will definitely have the DNA from it's mother and father, but not from it's grandmother. DNA from a grandmother just would not work, it's too far removed.

Yes, they could, especially if they didn't have a way of obtaining DNA from ANS. But, because they can it's best to get as close to the source as possible in case it's not really ANS mother for some reason or there can be different mutations and such that can sometimes alter the results.

It should be possible to get Anna's DNA from her remains; an autopsy is being done, so the remains exist. But that is not needed to determine the paternity of Anna's child -- that can be done by taking DNA samples from the baby and from the putative fathers.

WOW I haven't met anyone I agree with. You hit the nail on the head. Now, about the DNA. Yes they could get DNA from her mother (assuming she REALLY is Anna's mother, yet another speculation). But most importantly they can still get Anna's DNA. from blood she gave during pregnancy, from hair, she's dead but still has hair. They CAN obtain DNA from Anna herself it's just legality at this point.
