Lets look at the stats. Nolan Ryan has 5714 Strikeouts to Randy Johnsons 4544. If Randy strikes out 200 batters per year he'll break the record in 6 years. Randy is 43 now so he'll be 49 years old.
I highly doubt it.

No. Randy is only hanging around because he wants to join the 300 win club. His back has been really bothering him these past couple of seasons but with 280 career wins he figures he can put in maybe two more seasons to get to the magic 300. He also doesn't have that 97 MPH fastball anymore. I'm not sure what kind of run support he will get from the D-backs but hopefully it will be enough. He will finish his career second all time in K's behind Ryan and will have his day in Cooperstown.

Not a chance!!! Randy only has a year or two left. Nolan Ryan has 5714 K's. Randy has 4544. At best Randy would need to pitch for 6 more seasons with 200 K's a year and that will NOT happen.

No. Even if he got 200 strikeouts per year, it would take him another six years to catch up to Ryan. Even though he's still pitching well, he is showing signs of aging ('06 was the first time in 17 years his ERA was above the league average) and to think he'll be able to keep up his current level until he's 49, or a declining level for even longer, is optimistic at best and foolish at worst. I think he'll finish out his current contract (which goes through the '08 season) and retire with around 310 wins and 4900 strikeouts.

No, he won't even come close. He's 1200 strikeouts behind Ryan and he has maybe 3 years left in him. He'll be a solid 700-800 strikeouts behind Ryan when his career is over.

He does not have a snowball's chance in hell of coming close to that record. If he gets close Ryan should come back and treat Randy like he did Robin Ventura.
Put him in a headlock and give him the old knuckleball sandwich....

Not likely. Johnson has to average 200 K's per year until he is 49 years old, or 300 per year until he is 47. (He is 43 now.) With his recent back problems, he probably has only two seasons left.

I don't think he will. Nolan Ryan has over 5,000 strikeouts. Johnson trails Ryan by more than 1,200 strikeouts. Johnson will be 44 this year. I don't think it will happen.

No.
He's 43 years old and almost 1200 K's behind. Further in his last two seasons, Johnson has K'd .95 and .6 hitters/IP. In Ryan's last two full seasons, he K'd 1.17 and 1.0 respectively
