The Weimar government passed very successful gun control legislation later used by the Nazi party when they took control. Maybe that would help, it certainly kept guns out of the hands of Jews. As for the right to own an assault rifle, the Second Amendment does protect this, in 1791, a musket was an assault rifle.

There are no clear cut arguments for making guns illegal.

The one that people will claim is that it will reduce violent crime. Guns are not the cause of violent crime, they are just tools used in violent crime. Criminals will just use other objects. Knives, baseball bats, tire irons, beer bottles, molaktov cocktails, golf clubs, hammers, screwdrivers, chainsaws, machettes, swords, shovels, rocks, are just a few possible lethal objects that can be and have been used as weapons for violent crime. Also, criminals will use guns. It would be impossible to ban guns. It does not take much of a machine shop to make a gun. There are millions of machine shops in the country. There will be a big market for these illegal guns. Banning guns will not take them out of the hands of criminals. Hitler banned guns, yet the resistance still had them.

Look how well all of the current gun laws are doing. The people who want to commit crime still have all the access they want to guns. The gun laws pretty much just affect the law abiding people.

There isn't one. The legality of guns is guaranteed to us by the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights gives us the right to freedom of speech and expression, the right to remain silent, the right to be free of illegal searches and seizures, the right to a speedy and public trial, the right to a jury, and the right not to have excessive bail nor cruel or unusual punishment.

I think that the right to bear arms is in pretty good company, especially since it is one of the founding principles of the USA.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. If we made guns illegal, then ONLY THE CRIMINALS WOULD HAVE GUNS. That doesn't sound very smart to me. I want to keep my guns to be able to defend myself. I am not going to murder anyone, but nobody is going to murder me either... Well- as long as I have my gun. To say the least I will go down shooting.

There are so many guns in America that if a law was passed preventing people from owning a gun it would take years and years before there was a reduction in gun crime and in the mean time the people that do want to own a gun would point out all the gun crime that was still going on.

I don't think there is one. If they banned gun ownership then the only ones who would be armed would be the police, the military and the thugs. I don't want to live in a country like that.

There are plenty of gun laws on the books now. Of course, the law abiding citizens abide by the law...the thugs don't. Banning guns wouldn't change a thing except you would no longer have the right to have one for self-protection.

You are an evil congressman who wants to take the rights away from all citizens. Making guns illegal would be an excellent start to achieving your objective.

There isn't one. Leave my rights and my guns alone. I have never committed a crime in my life. I have a right to protect myself and my family if I have to. With our military over seas and our police busy with meth and crack what do you think would happen if we were ever to be invaded? And don't say that if will never happen. Every learned person of history knows that no one country has gone though its lifetime without being attacked and invaded. House by house we have a duty to protect our loved ones and our way of life.

There is none. Guns protect people from criminals who don't care if they are illegal or not. That is what makes them criminals! Duh.
In Australia, they outlawed guns AND guess what? Gun crime went UP! Go figure.

Some guns, perhaps. Guns in general no.

No private citizen needs to own an AK47 but a hunting rifle, shot gun or pistol sure. The second amendment allows it.
