and elsewhere in the country is it about time that old fashioned punishment is bought back. Such as the birch and even the stocks to humiliate the perpetrators of these crimes. Because putting people behind bars and putting youngster in young offenders instututions serves no purpose what soever.
We need to clamp down now before anymore youngsters get shot and people get mugged and beaten for the sake of a few pounds to buy drugs.
What do you think please?

Your question is so relevant, I will come back to it later, as I totally agree, with one proviso, I would kill all paedophiles or at least release them to the tender mercies of women. Any kind of ritual humiliation would sort out the rest of these maniacs. But if it was left to me I would pack them all in a big hall, and shoot the lot along with Russel Brand, Davina McColl et al. !! Oh, and muggers should be thrashed by the family of the victim at the very least. Teach the bastards to make our lives a misery. My nephew is in prison at the moment for hitting women - his only complaint is he is missing his lap top. He does IT studies, guitar lessons, has a telly in his room, enjoys the food and when he gets out he will step in to his job with his father and do it all again.

I'm afraid, I don't have an answer for the punishments either, but I think that with a change of priorities in the police force, much could be done.
I live in a council estate, not too big, not too horrible, quite a nice road really, nice neighbours. Every now and then the kids here go mad. It's predictable - At the end of the holidays they all get bored and there is no police to be seen anywhere! Kids got on the garage roofs taking the tiles off a couple of years ago for 3 days in a row. I rang the police & got put on hold. 10 min later the damage was done, the kids cleared off & I was still on hold!
If the teenagers wouldn't be able to get away with causing damage and shoplifiting & council housing would be spread out nicely - NO big estates - perhaps we could stop some youngsters becoming criminals!

I dont belive in prisons, they are not a success, the punishments should be harder i belive,
We must look at the root of all problems and that is from childhood, and their upbringing, thing is i feel tht the rich are getting richer and the poor getting poorer, that is one of the main reason y the poor feel tht they have no chance in life, so some the ones without education or understanding will steal from the 'well off' but tht lands them in deeper trouble which then becomes a vicious circle, I feel the solution would be that everyone should look after another , by wealth, health, etc, with tht everyone would all be on the same platform, no envy, no hatred, no stealing, etc..

I'm with you all the way, but the hardest thing is to overcome the do-gooders then we might see changes in the law. do-gooders have a stranglehold on society, how long are we going to put up with them. Decent people have no time for all the criminal elements in this country, governments know this and yet nothing is being done.

All decent law abiding citizens would surely long for a country they could be proud of and walk the streets in safely.
As for drug related crimes, that should starwith at least a 5 year sentence and increase rapidly.

I am a prison pastor. If you think that prison is a cakewalk, then you better think again. Ask any inmate and he/she will tell you that they would much rather spend time in the stocks than a single day in a state jail or penitentiary. There is nothing good about it.

I don't think there's any evidence that birching or the stocks would have any deterrent effect. It's an over-simplistic solution to a complex problem.

I'm not sure....but here in Milwaukee, some criminals are sentenced to public humiliation. LOL - not as bad as it sounds, really. Some have to walk around with signs saying "I did ______." One horrid slumlord had a sign placed on his property listing his phone number.
I gots no problem with either of those things, for sure.
