How do I STOP the song I'm playing on my Ipod, not pause it.?

you don't...
but if you want you can hit the << or the >> button until you have gone throught the certin number of songs and then your ipod will go back to the normal screen...

You hold down the play/pause button. :)

Yes it "sleeps" but when you wake it back up it's at the same spot in the song you stopped it at. So you essentially stop the song.

Or did you want your ipod to stay on and just the song stop??

You can't. The songs either pause or go to the next/previous. If you hold the play button it will make the iPod sleep.
