I have really bad luck with animals since moving to Alaska. My first pet (a fish) had repeated seizures all through its life.

My second pet (a rat) was killed and eaten by his cagemate when I went to visit my parents (my roommate was watching them). My third pet was a dog, she broke her chain and ran off and got shot at the large animal research station (caribou farm). My fourth and fifth pets were also dogs, Turtle went crazy and had to be put down and Ollie got hit by a car the day after we left AK to go visit family on the East Coast (our friend was watching him). Should I get another pet? Has anyone else had such bad luck with animals?

Just a suggestion? Most towns, cities and states have Animal Care and control, SPCA, and rescue shelters. Why don't you try volunteering at one of those places for awhile, just so you can get to know the animals. Visiting, and actually having an animal in your life at home, are really two separate things. You may feel like you love all of them, and you "may." But adopting an animal is a big responsibility, it's a forever thing. I live in Las Vegas Nevada, and over 25 thousand animals were euthanized this year alone, because so many people didn't realize the love and attention required for these animals. It really breaks my heart. I have 2 dogs and a bird in my life right now, and though I love them dearly, It's a fact that they require a lot of my attention round the clock. Before you get another "pet" think about it carefully, okay? Good luck.

If you get another pet, you are absolutely sure you can keep up the responsibilities to train, tame, and socialize? My suggestions: A guinea pig. They are adorable, and develop strong bonds with their owners. They are awake during the day AND night, so whenever you're awake they will be too. They have many different coat colors and patterns, if you want a "cool" looking pet, although they should have a large cage. You say you want a reptile? Check your local animal shelter. They usually have a lot of lizards, snakes, geckos. But you should try a frog. Pacman frogs are interesting looking, and they can grow quite big. You can feed them mice and crickets, too ( I personally would never feed them mice. )': Not too big. Beta fish are extremely colorful, and they don't take up space at all. They would be perfect to have in your room. Good luck with your new pet!

Please do not get another pet! some thing is not right either you are not taking good enough care of them or some one put a spell on you, but why should another animal die because of you? and no I have never heard of any one having such bad luck (if that's what it is) I think you get a pet and still run all over the world and you think some one else should look after your responsibility it don't work that way.

try talking to your local vet about choosing an animal that matches your lifestyle. there is no reason why u shouldn't get to have a great happy life and friendship with a special animal! just make sure you have the resources, time, and love to devote to your pet...remember most animals really rely on their owners! a dog or a cat may be what you are looking for, but make sure to talk to a vet or check out some trusted animal personality websites.

I have never heard of that happening to anyone- I'm so sorry for you. It sounds like most of it happened out of yor hands in at the hands of others. Sounds like your a good owner, but maybe wait till you aren't having to travel, so that you can be with the pet. I wouldn't let any of your friends watch a new pet at all. Maybe next time you leave, try a boarding kennel where you know the dog is safe. Good Luck !!!!

In all honesty, it sounds like you are indirectly to blame for the outcome of these animals' lives.
It's not should you get another pet, but do you have the responsibility to care for a pet?
You can blame your friends all you want, but by law, it is your fault.
I think you owning another pet would be cruelty to animals until you learn how to care for them.
Maybe your fish had seizures from bad water...
Anyway, if you love animals, love them from afar.

That is sad, but you have just been particularly unlucky. Don't assume the run of bad luck will continue. Try going to a rescue centre for you next pet. The animal will already be lucky having been rescued, it might break the unlucky streak.

What do you mean when you say "Turtle went crazy." It might be that you need to wait until you have a more stable situation where your pets won't have to be cared for by such irresponsible people.
