getting worse.

Man you people must live miserable lives. Racism is so much better than let's say 1960 or 70.

You know what you guys' problem is... you spend too much time here on Yahoo being tricked by little kids using the N word into thinking that this is the opinions of the majority of people.

Travel around your country a little and get your asses from behind the keyboard, you'll see racism in this country is 10X better for whites, blacks and everyone inbetween.

Geesh!

Worse

The more people talk about it and how to cure it, the worse it gets.

You can't stop racism by repeatedly discussing it and trying to figure out ways to stop it. You're perpetuating racsim just by keeping the topic alive and open for debate.

Example: Do black students have the same opportunity in college as white students?

Well, just by asking the question, you admit that you don't see people as people, but rather as black people or white people.

Moral to the story is, if you don't want to be racist, and you don't want racism to continue, then don't even use the words black, white, or race. Even if you're trying to solve the problem or convince someone else not to be racist, you're perpetuating racism by acknowledging physical differences.

Both - People are still trying to punish people for things other people did and there is no one around now that any of those things happened to or from! I am part Indian so I do have a say so here. Why should I expect you and/or your family pay for something people did in the past that you had no control over and were not even born yet??? There are opinions in general for all races, people are people and if you are rude, hateful, punishing me for something I had nothing to do with and judging me because you of a certain race and I'm not; YOU are the racist one, you are not getting to know me you are going on what you think I am.

its worse because the have alots are not helping the have nots and try to ignore the have nots by starting wars like in Iraq and other countries in the middle east. The have alots put the have nots down by exposing them negatively in the media. we all know have alots control the media. The have alots control our country and only help people of their kind. They pretend to help the have nots but actually make the situation worse. The younger have alots are very uneducated and will say anything to protect their fellow have alots. The have alots only care for themselves and don't care for the ones who cant care for themselves. These days its against the law for someone to physically harm someone because of the persons ethnicity. verbally harming someone is not used as much. There is a new form of racism it is called ignoring, hiding and selfishness.

IMO, in some areas of life, it is receding; but in others it is getting worse.

There are still some people whose values show their own insecurities with themself, which is - I believe - at the root of some racism. OTOH, minorities and people of color are being afforded more opportunity. However, the old adage still exists - we have to be twice as good to get half the credit.

I think it is a multi-generational problem with a multi-generational solution. Maybe my children or grandchildren will see the fulfillment of the dream.

As long as people are not physically harming each other, racism is only a product of the mind. To obsess about it outside of physical harm and to further enact laws to counter it is something that can only be described as "thought crime". I agree with Justice Brandeis when he stated that, ultimately, if speech is effectively left unchecked, good speech will always drown out bad speech.

Given that we are living in stressful times, and people tend to look for scapegoats during stressful times, it's likely getting worse, along with the desperate clinging to orthodoxy engaged in by some of our more panicky citizens.

Both.

Companies and such are required to hire, regardless of color etc. This is mostly good, except for the bad:

The bad is that there are folks on both sides of racisim that think they deserve something special because of their race. It doesn't matter if you are white or black or mexican or chinese. You should be treated the same by everyone, under every circumstance. But to be treated differently, good or bad, is racist. And folks use their race to get away with their behavior or their treatment of others. That's sad.

it doesnt' change. Humans have an instinct to try to compare themselves to others to make themselves feel better. Racism is just one way of doing that. it will always exist in some form or another. It may not be acted upon all the time, or it may not always be against the same group of people, but it will always be there.
