Local pawnshops have hundreds of gorgeous rings at at least 1/2 the price. Many come with appraisals and have originally come from top end jewelers

Before you go, do a little google on the attributes of fine diamond. You can learn a little about the different grades and clarity of diamonds. When you find a jeweler that you like & trust(?), ask to use their loupe (loop) when you are picking a diamond. My family pointed my in the direction of a jeweler they trusted.
