I have a 320 GB hard drive. Can I designate a part of that to recovery, as I have no recovery drive?

Or can I use a recovery drive on another computer?

You can, using a partition, but what'll really happen is that it'll only be a recovery from accidential deletion or system problems. It won't protect you from a disk failure.

Yes, but if you only have one HD, you need to partition it, and put it on there. (the second partition)
