My son (20 months) has just got over croup, which is a really throaty, barking sounding of cough. I kept him comfortable with calpol, but I didn't use any cough medicines or anything else, just a hot steamy bath with the door shut, kettle of water in his bedroom before he went to bed, damp towel over the radiator, anything to get some damp air into him, even put tumble dryer on with wet clothes in circulating the house! Also if worst comes to worse wrap them up nice and warm and take them outside into the night air. His croup cleared up in less than 48 hours, so I believe this to be best course of action. Have heard bad things about using cough medicines, for some reason it is best not to supress a cough. (In adults, the best remedy is to sip very hot water) Sorry for long winded answer, but basically do not worry, I have 2 children and coughs and colds are all part of it, keeping them calm and comfortable helps them feel better.

AS the baby is only 9 months dont use advise offunqualified people on the internet. Keep up with the calpol but if still no better take her back to the doctor and insisit on a hospital check up. If the doctor says no well take the baby to A and E they are legally bound to treat her however try not to waste their time but a baby is sooooooooo important.

I use the pink Buttercup cough bottle for babies. My daughter is one and has had it a few times. She seems to like the taste and I find that it works very well. You can give it along side Calpol if they have a temperature too. Good Luck!

My baby girl is now 11mnt old and she was coughing from abt 2 mnts. First we all got scared but aft figure out that she's doing it to get our attention.
So check that if your one too doing it for a similar kind of thing. if the doctor is saying its not an infection dont panic sooo much. But remember, they too can have mistakes. Normally they checks the lungs only but they never check the troughs. So ask the doc to check her blood to clear out.
dont rely on the advices online when it comes to medicines moreover this is regarding a ltl fellow.
take care for her

what sort of cough is it if its a chesty cough then no but if its a thickly cough you can buy cough medicine to help. MEDISED is good it has a decongestant in it and helps them to sleep i swear by it it can be used from 2/3 months onwards. Also sitting in the bath room with the hot tap running for the steam or a saucepan of boiling water on the cooker just be careful with the hot water.CALRUB or VICKS BABY BALM rubbed into chest and back is good also try KARVOL can be added to bedding or in the bath to help unblock noses.

Try a humid bathroom and some saline nasal spray in her nose to keep things moving. The less dripping from her nose the less in her lungs to cause an infection.
Dont suppress her cough, whatever you do, it only causes infection and prolongs the sickness. Her cough is her body's way of getting rid of the irritation.

my baby had a terrible cough that really scared me when she was a month old she was so tiny it lasted for about 5 weeks. i used to take her to the doctors they would check her chest and will say that it's clear.i was just giving her paracetamol. i used to get so angry when they used to tell me that we cant find anything wrong with her i just wanted them to find something so that they will treat her. it just started cutting down and finished sometimes coughs last for a long time even though they will be no infection. just keep her warm i know it's sad when baby's are not well.
