US phone numbers are in the format XXX ( Area code ) XXX XXXX.

In order to dial from outside the area code you need to put a 1 in front. It rarely lets you put a UK number in as they don't have the same format.

You will probably have to call the company to order unless they have an international ordering page. They are looking for a US telephone number.
