First, what operating system are you using? Second, why do you need a USB TO PARALLEL -BI-DIRECTIONAL Leed(sp) on an old computer? All old computers have parallel ports built in. Third, what keeps saying that the USB cable is not recognized; the printer? the computer?

I have no idea what you are doing by the question you asked.

Just get a new computer.

Generally, whenever you attempt to convert from one type of cable to another, you are going to have issues.

If the printer is saying that it doesn't not recognize the usb cable, it just means that the usb to parrallel adapter probably will not work for that printer.

My suggestion would be to return the USB to Parallel adapter and buy a USB card for one of the PCI slots in your computer and then just plug the printer into that instead.. If the computer is not too old that is.

This would generally only work if you had win98 or better.

The question is not how to do it, it is better to ask why you would want to? Modern USB printers, complete with a cartridge, are available new for as little as $30. Why would you want to mess with an old parallel printer, pay up to $60 for cartridges (2 x $30) when you can get a new one for $30? Throw that old printer away!
