I've been feeding my 6 mo. old cereal w/fruit and a 8 oz. bottle 3 times a day and a 8oz. bottle in between. He sleeps great at night. His last bottle is at 8 or 9 pm and he sleeps usually until 9:30 am. But the family keeps telling me I'm feeding him too much that I need to cut down. So I started giving him between 4 and 5 oz. bottles with his cereal. But he still acts hungry and now wakes any where between 4:00 am and 7:00 am. for a bottle. I try not to give him one but he won't go back to sleep he just crys and crys. Any one with suggestions ??

At this age if you are going to cut something out of the diet, do the solids. They are still getting most of the nutrients out of the milk/formula. You should not cut back on the milk/formula for the solid food. But like others have said at this age they should eat till they are full. They will let you know when they are full.

I'm going through the same thing with my 7 month old. Try giving him a bottle of juice instead of milk all the time since he's eating cereal and fruits. My son does good on a feeding of vegetables, fruit and a bottle of juice, i feed him that around 6pm and he plays, goes to sleep and is cool until about 4 or 5 am. you can never feed your baby too much, they know when they are hungry. The baby fat will fall off when they start walking, I have 4 kids so I know this!

honey does your docotr say yure feeding him too much? if not dont worry about it. my son will take a jar of babyfood, and a 6 to 8 oz bottle with cereal every 6 hours. If it was working for you and your son-then thats what's working. this is YOUR kid, not your families. dont worry about them. My son is 6 months old (7 on the 25th) and has been on this routine for almost 3 months. he goes to bed around 9 and wakes up around 8 or 9...maybe later. Just relax and do what feels right for your son. Your Mommy and you know best!

in my opinion, if your babe is hungry...feed him. unless the doc says he's eating too much then you cut back.....got a story, like to hear it?..here it goes....i just went to the doc with my nephew...he's developing quite fine but the doc said he was underweight. he's 9 mos weighing only 16 pounds. we didn't think he was underweight cuz he snacks all day long and eats some table food with his mom....just like you my sis was listening to what FAMILY SAY that it was time for him to try and eat more maturely cuz his teeth came in early so he started having whole milk earlier than he should have. whole milk doesn't have the nutrients and calories that the baby formula and cereal has and we think that's how his weight gain slowed down. you and your babe were happy with the schedule that you had set and any changes would change his sleep patterns.....again unless a doctor suggests that you change his feeding habit keep on doing what you're doing....you know your babe better than anyone...best wishes!

go back to what you were doing..at this age you shouldn't worry about overfeeding because babies are suppose to be hungry all the time especially since they don't digest everything you feed them..parents should worry about overfeeding when they're kids don't exercise but again this is a six month old and it's not time to worry yet..I mean how much physical activity can a baby get

You are only feeding your baby too much if the baby is VERY overweight. Your baby has a healthy appetite. Feed him, and ask the doctor what he or she thinks at the baby's next weigh in. I really wouldn't worry too much about it. Isn't it fun hearing all of the unwanted advice from family? Hang in there.

i wouldn't worry Babies grow all the time and if he needs that amount of food than i would keep giving him it. i work with babies and some of them hardly eat anything whereas others eat so much. In the end you know your baby best, otehrs always think they know better.

He won't eat if he's not hungry. You're his mom, don't listen to your family.
