It truly varies from employer to employer, based on the position, their process, and the number/types of candidates.
It is always a good idea to follow up with a call within a week to see how the process is going and if you can offer any more information to help with their decision.
I have even thought of questions to ask about the position just to have an "excuse" to call and then ask about how the process of hiring is moving along.
Good luck!

depends on the job, usually during the interview the employer will pretty much tell you, you got the job. Unless it's a management position.
Then they might have other people they want to interview, but from every interview I've been to from big companies to medium sized companies if it's an entry level position during the first interview they will tell you they want to hire you. If they don't tell you that than you probably aren't getting the job for whatever reason, because if they are interviewing that means there is an opening, if they want you they will tell you.

From my past experiences in HR employees usually know right away whether or not they are interested in you, but it varies. Some times they decided on the spare of the moment to hire within the company and other times if they seem to like you and you meet the desired qualifications than your hired within a few weeks.

Depending on the position and company they could hire you right on the spot. If it were me I would check back with the one the interviewed you in the next day or so to see if they needed any thing further from you or had any questions or mention that your ready to come in and available tomorrow if that be the case.

it could be upto a month or even a little more. even if you sent a thank you letter, you can write an email or call them just to follow up. perhaps you are calling because you have other offers in mind, they dont have to know! just be confident and friendly...

I always say that if they don't call within 2 business days then it is always good to call and follow up. It makes you look ambitious!
