It could be bullying or like other people suggested a fungus. Although MTG is great stuff it's not recommended for use on the face or near eyes- that is because of the sulfur compounds can irritate the eyes and ears.
In the mean time I'd pull him off the pasture for a while and treat him with Clear Eye and also scrub his face with a aloe Vera or iodine wash. Chances are since no other hair and skin disruptant are happening it's just bullying- he may be the low horse of the herd or may be doing the bullying himself. The hair on the face is infact harder to regrow and sometimes if scarred to much- may never grow back.
If his eye seems to look worse after removing him I'd call and have your vet check him out to prevent a bigger eye infection and even blindness. He may have an eye ulcer or debris stuck in his eye. In the meantime treat with Clear Eye and cover his eye with a fly mask and give him minimal exposure to light as this can damage the eye more.

If you're just talking bald patches without any skin disruption then I wouldn't think it was from bullying. It could be from rubbing (in which case you'll want to figure out why they are so itchy) or it could be bacterial/fungal. I would probably start treating it with an anti-fungal/bacterial spray (as long as the skin wasn't broken), as well as a good iodine scrub down to see if that helped. If it didn't, I'd have the vet out to take a look, perhaps it needs to be treated with oral antibiotics as well.

Once you have the cause under control, I'd try using MTG to get the hair to regrow. That stuff can work miracles.

Best of luck...

p.s. Make sure to disinfect your brushes, halter, etc. Using anything contaminated on a newly clean horse will reinfect them.

Hello. I would first wash his face with an antibacterial horse shampoo. you can find these in any horse catalog or online. Also, tack stores have them. www. statelinetack.com, sstack.com, smithbrothers.com, jeffersequine.com, etc.

I totall agree with the person that talked about the MTG....I show my gelding in competition during the summer months and I use it over the winter to increase his tail growth. It works very fast and is super safe!

www.jeffersequine.com has super deals on those items you need. The MTG is around $5 for a bottle and the shampoo...around $4. You can fix this for sure. Wash his face with the shampoo (just make sure it is not human shampoo), get the right stuff. Rinse really well. Dry his face. (air dry) Then use the MTG. It stands for Mane and Tail Grow.

Good luck, honey

Is it a strip of hair missing or clumps? With the eye problem it sounds like it could be allergies. But if it is falling out in clumps, it could be a fungus. How long has he been like this? I would call the vet, but for the time being, put some betadine on the bald spots and get some ClearEye at your local tack shop.
