I'm Scottish (not British).
I have a lot of American friends. Half my wife's family live in the States.
However many people get annoyed with the American government. As most americans I know are patriotic (be they Democratic or Republican) misaimed criticism of American policy can seem like an attack on the US itself.
On the other hand, a lot of the hostility stems from some American's attitude. Some treat Europeans as scum. I've been in contact with this type through work and it is best to keep your mouth shut and let them talk themselves into a corner.
at the end of the day, people are tribal and don't trust "others".

No you are not Kennyboy. You are not 'a' Scottish or British. You are a Scot and a Brit. Either that or you 'are' Scottish and British. I'm Scottish too and hate everyone here! Why can't the rest of you leave and let me have the country to myself?? Go on, get lost! lol
P.S.
Americans are okay, but I couldn't eat a whole one.

I love Americans. They are so nice and friendly. Sometimes in shops it can feel a little much and sometimes fake but they have to be like that its part of the job.
I have met some lovely Americans on my trips to the States and it keeps me coming back for more. Tuscon was one of my fave cities. Fantastic weather, great area and lovely people.

Americans are very nice people, IMO, i have been over 6-7 times and they love us Brits - I think people confuse the whole american population with their administration and/or met one american once that they thought was brash and have gone off the ever since!!
