usually its effective (for birth control only) if you've been taking it for 30 days. you should check with your gynecologist to make sure. and even though you've only been with one person, how sure are you he has only been with you? birth control doesnt protect against std's and lots of std's have no symptoms for 6 months or more. it is safer to use condoms. but even condoms dont prevent transmission of genital warts or herpes.

If you are on the pill it depends on when the box says you can have unprotected sex.. usually its something like a week later, when the concentration of hormones in your body is higher... but you need to check with the doctor who gave them to you.

If you had sex the first day of your period I take as you had sex the first day of your bleeding, this time is the less fertile of the whole cycle... so i wouldn't worry too much... it is possible, but hard....

ask your doc about the time when you can have sex if you just started with the pill.

You should take it for at least 3 months before having unprotected sex to make sure it is working for you. Even still, the pill is not 100% effective - it's pretty close to it though, as long as you make sure you take it every day.

You NEED to check the little pamphlet that came with your medication. Different pills have different schedules, and if you screw up the schedule with some oral contraceptives by even as little as a day, you WILL be unprotected. Simple as that.

As for the unprotected part, if BOTH of you haven't gotten an official STD test since the last time you had sex with another person, you should NOT go unprotected. The vast majority of people with STDs don't even know they have them, even as they're spreading them to their partners.

Check your pill insert to be sure, but it's usually effective immediately from the 1st day of your period.

Our local health dept says to always use a back-up the whole first cycle just to be safe.

Just read the insert, it should be on there. Specifying what type of pill you're on would help.

If you're taking it for the first time, you shouldn't have unprotected sex for 1-2 months, until your body gets use to it. Now, if you were on the Depo shot, that'd be different. That's effective after 24 hours 'cause it goes into your main bloodstream.

After your first period while on the pill. It should be effective by then.

A month after you start the pill you should be good...just make sure you take it everyday.... if you miss a day it doesn't work at all.... you should try going on the depo shot!!!
