Biggest bang for your buck naturally comes Yamaha. If you've ever looked at the recording labels' studios & the sound boards at major Rock concerts, you know Yamaha is the industry standard. So it's no surprise that they'd have good equipment for home recording studios that's easy to use & quality built.

A cheap option is to go analog. You can buy a used 16 tack studio tape recorder for just a few hundred dollars. They may be dinosaurs, but they still record very high quality sound.

Boss Micro BR-80 is very cool. 8 tracks onto a SD card, that can be upgraded. $299 at most all music stores... The Tascam DP008 is okay, not as many features as the BOSS, but it does have a CD writer built in... $199
