He plays a character.

He also pretends to be a self-absorbed ultra-conservative, when he is actually quite liberal.

Stephen Colbert, John Stewart, Klondike bars, blue curacao, Baileys Irish Cream, Keith Olbermann and a layered drink with banana liquor.

Yes he is and came from a family with eleven kids (or so he says). His whole show is pretense so you are asking about just one more wacky facet of his on-screen image.

His pretense of being a conservative in the style of O'Reilley is so over the top that he was invited to be the speaker at a press dinner held at the white house with president Bush attending. His act is so good that Bush and the room full of neo-cons didn't realize that everything he said was mocking them.

I'm pretty sure he's american. But colbert is a french name. Maybe he's confused.

French pansy?

Irish= conquered by the English
English= conquered by the French (Normans really but they spoke French)

His entire act is based on someone else and that is probably why he is pretending to be a pansy french guy. He is essentially mocking Bill O'Reilly.

He could be half French, half Irish, or even a mixture of stuff.

And I actually like him more than Jon Stewart. I think it's funny he's pretending to be conservative.

'Cause it's funny. He's also pretending to be an ultra-conservative, which is also funny.
